Uk based hosting - is it important?

Hi,

I\'ve been told that to get good Search positions when someone search on google.co.uk (uk only) you need to be hosted in the UK, is that correct?

If yes, who are the best UK hosting service, i\'m a small business so will be on shared servers.

I used to own a site with a .com extension that never showed up on Google.co.uk until I moved from a $2 a month US host to a decent UK host, however if youve got a .co.uk extension on your domain you should be Okay.

WFHN used to be hosted on a US based server. Apart from the speed difference, which is fairly insignificant now most people use ADSL/cable connections, we gained a ranking on MSN.co.uk which we never had previously.

You either need to be hosted on a UK based server or have a UK based TLD in order to be listed in UK search directories such as Google MSN etc.
